Old Plates…Nothing Goes to Waste at Futuraskolan Rådan!

What happens when art teachers discover dozens of old plates in a dusty corner of the basement?  Well, creative designing, of course!

Earlier this term, the art teachers found a few dozen unused plates tucked away in the basement and they immediately started coming up with ideas of how to incorporate them into the art lessons.

This week the students started making holiday plates using some special paint and a couple of potters wheels.

Stay tuned to see their creative results!

Grade 8’s art

The learners of year 8 have been working with  pattern, colour and material sketches in craft and with illustration with figures in Art.

Grade 8 – Entrepreneurship Project

In week 42 students from Year 8 travelled to KTH university and the Mentorspace building in their Kista campus. The Mentorspace is an area within KTH where students are able to work and create projects in a space with donated tools and resources to use creatively. During the day there students from Rådan worked alongside university students and lecturers learning plenty of skills such as soldering, 3D printing and programming.

The reasoning behind this day was to develop many of the skills needed for their entrepreneurship project. Students are going to create a technology project which uses the knowledge they have gained from programming and electronics to create a product that can help reach part of the UN sustainability goals.

The students will be working on building their products in technology lessons in November and December, with the aim to have a final product by the end of the term. There will be two more visits to Mentorspace as we work through this term – with students using the facilities and knowledge available to help make their products a reality

UN Day at Rådan

Today, the students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 9 participated in UN Day. They were divided into countries and participated in debates representing their countries’ interests.

There was also a tasty UN Day fika. The students made goodies to share with their classmates.

IPC and IMYC Books

Futuraskolan International Rådan’s library has books displays this months which reflect the International Primary Years and Middle Years Curriculum themes that Rådan students are working with.

These themes are digital gamers, earth and space, beliefs, the human brain and chemistry, creativity, curiosity, and entrepreneurship.

The books on display cover a wide range of possibilities in each of these areas and include works of fiction and non-fiction in both Swedish and English.

Courage and Community

For our IMYC themes Courage and Community the students in grade 7 and 8 worked in Art with illustrations, lines and symbols. We got inspiration for two courageous artists and swedish illustrators. The exhibition is on our floor
